Memories er en form- og fargesterk samling av historier, fortalt til lerretene av Kizito Maria Kasule, f\u00f8dt 1962.<\/h4>

\u00a0<\/p>

Kasule har gjennom sitt arbeid oppn\u00e5dd en betydelig stemme b\u00e5de i og utenfor Ugandas kunstmilj\u00f8. Han er like mye filantropist, sosial entrepren\u00f8r og samfunnsaktivist som han er kunstner.<\/p>

Kizito M. Kasule m\u00e5tte tidlig ta opp kampen for kunsten sin. F\u00f8dt inn i en s\u00f8skenflokk p\u00e5 12, var det forventet at han hjalp til p\u00e5 g\u00e5rden i stedet for \u00e5 g\u00e5 p\u00e5 skolen. Men Kasules \u00f8nske om kunnskap og utdannelse var brennende sterkt, og derfor ble han bedt om \u00e5 forlate familien og klare seg selv da han var 11 \u00e5r. Kasule levde fra h\u00e5nd til munn, han gikk p\u00e5 skolen om formiddagen og jobbet for \u00e5 overleve p\u00e5 ettermiddagen.<\/p>

I 1987 startet borgerkrigen i Uganda, og Kasule ble arrestert. Etter t\u00f8ffe \u00e5r i milit\u00e6rfengselet, klarte han \u00e5 r\u00f8mme fra Uganda.<\/p>

Etter krigen kunne Kasule vende hjem, og i 1992 fullf\u00f8rte han sin Bachelor of Arts degree ved Makerere University i Kampala. I 2003 fikk han sin PhD, og i dag er Kasule dean ved det samme universitetet.<\/p>

Parallelt med arbeidet ved universitetet og sine egne malerier, er Kizito M. Kasule brennende opptatt av \u00e5 gi alle en mulighet til \u00e5 utvikle sin egen kunst og skaperevne. Som f\u00f8lge av dette har han startet Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design (NIAAD).<\/p>

Kizito Maria Kasule har i sin helhet donert alle inntektene fra utstillingen MEMORIES til st\u00f8tte for utsatte studenter ved NIAAD, og til utviklingen av instituttet til universitet.<\/p>

MEMORIES<\/h3>

In MEMORIES I visually recall and record my personal experience that have dominated my sculptural and painterly works during the previous twenty years. The works are inspired by my love of the traditional African classical sculptures, which has inspired many modern artists such as Pablo Picasso among others. The classical African sculptures were made by our ancestors for social-cultural purposes. We inherited these forms and the purposes for which they were made.<\/p>

My paintings carry a dual visual heritage; the African and Western. My interest in still life painting is not only to reproduce what I see, but also reflects my emotional reactions and the captured moments of my passing memories. What is important in painting is not what we visually see but rather the memories we retain when we enter into dialogue with an art work that we encounter. This is what matters; this is what creates the memorial dialogue between the artist and the viewer.<\/p>

Med Nagenda International Academy of Art and Design (NIAAD) har Kizito M. Kasule \u00f8nsket \u00e5 skape et utdannelsesmilj\u00f8 som tilrettelegger for at studentene kan utvikle sine kreative egenskaper til et levedyktig entrepren\u00f8rskap.<\/p>

I samarbeid med nordmannen Eirik Jarl Trondsen har Kasule opprettet stipendordninger for sosialt utsatte studenter, som ved hjelp av de innsamlede midlene f\u00e5r en mulighet til \u00e5 f\u00e5 utdannelse som skaper b\u00e5de personlig og samfunnsmessig vekst i Uganda.<\/p>

NIAAD utvikles n\u00e5 til universitetet African Institute of Arts and Design, utenfor Kampala i Uganda.<\/p>

Noen av elevverkene ved NIAAD er med under utstillingen MEMORIES, og inntektene ved salg av Kasules malerier g\u00e5r i sin helhet til institusjonen og stipendordninger.<\/p>

Memories is a form-rich and colorful collection of stories told to the canvases of Kizito Maria Kasule, born 1962.
\nThrough his work, Kasule has gained a significant voice both inside and outside Uganda's art community.
